Surrey: cyclists raise funds for desert community
Eight cyclists took part in a 30 mile sponsored ride around leafy Haslemere recently, to raise funds for New Ways - a charity which supports health and education projects in a desert region of northern Kenya run by the St Paul's Missionary Community.
Organiser Stuart Garner told ICN: "It was a great family day out. There was plenty of sunshine and the route was really pretty." Westminster priest, Fr Albert Salvans, works in Kenya with the community. Based on the edge of the Turkana Desert, his parish extends over thousands of miles.
New Ways has helped fund education, health, water and agricultural projects in the region organised by the community. The charity's focus is on projects that are sustainable and provide a basis for long-term development. If you would like to contribute to their work send cheques to: New Ways, 47, Cumberland Street, London SW1V 4LY For more information on New Ways visit: www.newways.org.uk
