Last week we reported that the director of a youth centre in a refugee camp near Bethlehem had been arrested by the Israeli army. Anas Abu Srour was stopped as he drove home after an English exam. For several days there was no news of his whereabouts but today the Aida Youth Center in Bethlehem wrote in a statement: "After no news for seven days, yesterday morning his family and colleagues at the Aida Youth Centre learnt that Anas has been sentenced to six months 'administrative detention'.

'This is a common practice in Israeli military courts, which allows Israel to keep Palestinians in prison, without charges or a trial. Administrative detention can be extended indefinitely.

"This decision is being appealed. Anas' colleagues, his friends, and his family are doing everything we can to get Anas out of prison as soon as possible."

To support the appeal, they are asking ICN readers to sign the letter they launched to demand Anas' release. See link below.

Anas is one of thousands of Palestinians who have been abducted and detained since 7 October. These men, women and children have committed no crimes, they are simply used as pawns in a cruel political game. Not only Anas, but all these innocent Palestinians should be released immediately so they can return to their families.

We will keep sharing any news we have about Anas.
