Online seminar on link between investments and environment

This special online event on 15 June, from 18.30 - 20.00 BST, hosted by the Archdiocese of Liverpool, will focus on the relationship between investments and environment. Speakers will be exploring both sides of the argument, and seeking to find ways forward in this complex area.

Anyone interested in environmental issues and the church is invited to attend. Volunteers and workers will share experiences of delivering environmental projects.

The session will start with a 10 -15 minute "headline" introduction from people involved in the environmental investments debate. These are then followed by breakout rooms to discuss the issue and make connections. There will also be an update on the Archdiocesan environmental plans.

The main speakers will be Stephen Barrie and Bokani Tshidzu.

Stephen Barrie is Deputy Chief Responsible Investment Officer at the Church of England Pensions Board where he works across the Board's stewardship activity. He is a trustee director of the Church Investors Group, director of the Investor Mining and Tailings Safety Initiative, and a member of various investment stewardship related bodies, including the Department for Work and Pensions' Taskforce on Social Factors. Previously he served as Secretary to the Ethical Investment Advisory Group advising the Church of England National Investing Bodies (£15 billion AUM); as a Fellow of the UK Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology; and on the staff (now on the governing body) of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre, Oxford. His academic background is in applied moral philosophy and Christian ethics, and he holds a PhD in philosophy on the topic of ethics, intentions, and side effects.

Bokani Tshidzu has been Operation Noah's Bright Now Campaign Officer since March 2020. She coordinates communication about the campaign with partners and liaises with religious organisations divesting from fossil fuels. Bokani was co-founder of sustainability start-up Vertigo Ventures and has previously interned in politics and finance. She has a degree in Politics with Economics from the University of Bath.
