Season of Creation with SCIAF

For this year's Season of Creation, a number of Scottish Faith Organisations have come together to offer four zoom sessions that address some of the key challenges and offer ways of responding that give us, and future generations, hope.
The sessions begin on Thursday 4th September when Martha Inés Romero, the Secretary General of Pax Christi International, will share on Climate Change and Just Peace by reflecting on the Indigenous Eco-Spirituality of the Latin American and Caribbean region and the way they heal Creation. She will also address Pax Christi International's main messages related to Active Nonviolence, and the relation between Rearming and Biodiversity and Ecological Justice.
As we are well aware it is the poorest countries who have contributed least to the climate crisis who are, and have been for a number of years, suffering the most and on Thursday 11th September we will have the opportunity to hear about The Reality of Climate Change from our companion Blessings Kachale.
Blessings is from Malawi, but now lives in Edinburgh, and works on SCIAF's climate adaptation project in Rwanda that supports Rwandan communities to confront the severe challenges posed by the climate crisis..
As well as hearing about the project in Rwanda, Blessings will also share her own experience of the reality of climate change and that of her family and community.
On Thursday 18th September our session Laudato Si' Schools - Seeds of Hope will focus on the tremendous work that is being done by our young people in our Laudato Si' Schools all across Scotland.
During the special anniversary year to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Laudato Si' Pope Francis invited us to focus on Ecological Action. Responding to that invitation the Scottish Catholic Education Service, SCIAF and Justice and Peace Scotland created the Laudato Si' Schools Scotland programme.
Our final session, Thursday 25th September, Eco-Congregations ~ Communities of Hope gives us an opportunity to hear the journey of two parishes and in dialogue with them see how other parishes may get involved. David Coleman, Eco-Congregation Scotland's Chaplain, will also offer insights into liturgy and prayer.
In their Pastoral Letter on the Sixth Anniversary of Laudato Si' the Bishops of Scotland applauded those schools who had signed up to be Laudato Si' schools and 'encouraged parishes to join the Eco-Congregation initiative and to examine what practical measures can be undertaken at a local level'.
The organisations supporting the programme are: the Care of Creation Office of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland, Eco-Congregation Scotland, Justice and Peace Scotland, the Laudato Si' Movement, Pax Christi Scotland, the Scottish Catholic Education Service, SCIAF and the Scottish Laity Network.
All the sessions are on zoom 7 - 8.30pm [UK Time] and everyone is welcome.
