Preparations underway for Daughters of Charity Provincial Assembly 2020

This Sunday marks the beginning of a two-week Assembly for the British and Australian Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul who have recently integrated into one Province, running from 30th August - 12th September. Not only will it be their first Assembly celebrating as one Province - the Province of Rosalie Rendu, but also the first ever held entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sisters from the Province have been attending Zoom training sessions in preparation for the event. Sister Ellen Flynn, Provincial Leader, says many of the Daughters are new to digital technology but are working extremely hard to learn so they can join in this significant occasion:

"The land of Zoom is a strange new virtual world for most of us! It is wonderful to see the Sisters engaging in the training with determination - and then experiencing the joy of mastering the technology. This time last year we would never have believed it!" said Sister Ellen.

Provincial Assemblies take place across the world every six years and are a chance for the International Company of the Daughters of Charity to reflect on their work and consider their future response to the calls of those who suffer from many forms of poverty. This year the global theme for the Assembly is 'Ephata', which is the Aramaic word for 'Be opened, break through'.

Over the course of the Assembly Daughters of Charity will discuss critical issues including Human Rights, Care for our Common Home, The Mystique of Living Together, Passing on the Faith and The Boldness of Charity, which was the theme of the 2014 - 2015 Assembly. They will also elect two delegates to represent their Province at the company's General Assembly held in Paris next year.
