Meeting: Our Lady of the Oak, Islington
The third meeting to support the restoration of the ancient Shrine of Our Lady of the Oak, Islington, will take place this Sunday, 8th December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, after the 6pm Mass in St John the Evangelist Church, 38 Duncan Terrace, the Angel, Islington.
The shrine was a significant pilgrimage site in London for more than 400 years, but was destroyed in 1538 during the Reformation. Official documents record that the statue from the shrine was burned, together those from other Marian shrines around the country. There is a small park now in the place where it is believed the shrine once stood.

Organiser Fiona Hicks has sent us this prayer to Our Lady of the Oak:
Holy Mary of the Oak of Islington
Our Mother, Holy Queen
and sacred enclosed Garden of innocence
Pray for us that we may be restored to everlasting love
Through your son, Jesus, bring our hearts alive
Restore Islington as a place of wholeness
And lead us to friendship with Jesus
And everlasting life
Amen.
