Volunteer opportunities with Jesuit Missions in 2020
Jesuit Missions is now recruiting volunteers to travel overseas in 2020. The international development office for the Jesuits in Britain offers four volunteer opportunities, varying from one month to six-month placements. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a new culture, experience a different lifestyle and grow in the Christian faith.
Jesuit Missions is looking for people who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and put their faith into action with some of the most marginalised communities.
In 2020, the following placements will be available:
· South Africa (three months): Volunteers (aged 18-27) will spend three months alongside local volunteers working with refugees in partnership with the Jesuit Refugee Service.
Departure: Summer 2020
Jesuit Missions Volunteer Coordinator Teresa Undurraga says: "This is an exciting new opportunity to play a part in one of our world's biggest humanitarian crises. There are now more refugees in the world than ever before, and yet many of these are forgotten and unreachable. This work in South Africa plays an important role in changing that."
· India or Tanzania (six months): Volunteers will teach at a Jesuit school and live in a volunteer community and be involved in parish and the local community life.
Departure: September/October 2020
"I thank God every day for the gift of my time here in Tanzania and if my first month is anything to go by, the next few months will be packed with fresh challenges and an abundance of joy." Jesuit Missions volunteer Ellie Clark after one-month volunteering in Tanzania.
· Kyrgyzstan (four weeks): Volunteers work as part of a team with local Jesuits and volunteers to run holiday camps for children and young people.
Departure: August
Laura Brennen volunteered in Kyrgyzstan this year, she says "My experience in Kyrgyzstan is something that I will treasure forever, as I truly felt that I was putting my faith in action and contributing both to my own personal development but also to the development of all the wonderful children that I met during my time away."
