Pope sends message to people of Chile and Peru

Pope Francis sent a video message to the people of Chile and Peru yesterday, ahead of his apostolic visit which takes place from January 15-22, 2018

"I will visit you as a pilgrim of the joy of the Gospel" Pope Francis said, stressing the themes of peace and love. "I want to meet you, to look into your eyes, see your faces and, he continues, be able to experience the closeness of God among all of you, His tenderness and mercy that embraces and comforts us."

The Holy Father praised the people of the two nations for the love they show to those in need, "Especially for the love you demonstrate towards those who are discarded by society."

He lamented the "culture of waste" and said the people of Chile and Peru are not alone, but that he and the entire church embrace them.
