LMS sponsors young pilgrims bound for Chartres
Young people embarking on the 2016 Chartres Pilgrimage in May have the chance of a subsidised ticket thanks to the Latin Mass Society.
Pilgrims from more than 20 countries take part in a three-day 70-mile route from Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, to Notre Dame Cathedral, Chartres, reputed to be the largest pilgrimage in western Europe.
British pilgrims will gather in London on Friday, 13th May, for Mass in Westminster Cathedral Crypt at 7am before leaving by coach for Paris.
Each day Mass is celebrated and pilgrims meditate on the Holy Rosary. Chaplains accompany pilgrims along the walk, hearing confessions, providing meditations and prayers and teaching the Catholic Faith.
LMS is offering bursaries of £100 to 15 pilgrims aged between 18 and 35, reducing the cost of a place from £250 per person to £150.
LMS Chairman Joseph Shaw said: "We're pleased to be able to offer bursaries so that young people can go to Chartres. The pilgrimage particularly attracts the young, and is a great sign of hope for the Church."
Corinna Bruce, from Nottingham, was one of 13 young people the LMS sponsored to go on last year's pilgrimage. Corinna said: "It is physically tough but the spiritual side takes over and the atmosphere is just amazing, especially with all the singing. You get a sense that all 10,000 people are in it together, like a family. I was grateful for the subsidised ticket from LMS."
