CAFOD statement on Israel elections

As Israelis head to the polls today, Verity Johnson, CAFOD's Head of Middle East region, issued the following statement: "Whatever the election outcome, international pressure on Israel must stay strong. Entire neighbourhoods in Gaza have been destroyed, and whole communities are being displaced in the West Bank. The dire warnings from the Israeli government of even further escalations of violence are extremely concerning.
"Palestinians know that today's vote is a question of their future - their right to life, their right to remain in their homes and lands. Violence and attacks continue to rise, and CAFOD partners have warned of ethnic cleansing. Every attack against Palestinians harms life and pushes the region further away from the change that is so desperately needed.
"Accountability must remain high on the international agenda. What's needed is a just and lasting peace, an end to the occupation and a path to recovery and reconstruction that offers hope for a dignified future."
