Bethlehem: Protect the Shepherds' Fields from illegal settlements

Source: Sabeel Kairos

Most pilgrims to the Holy Land will have visited the Shepherds' Fields, in Beit Sahour, near Bethlehem. These fields and ancient caves are where, according to tradition, the shepherds heard the angels singing on the night Jesus was born in Bethlehem. For many years pilgrims have come here to pray.

But a new illegal Israeli settlement outpost, 'Shadma Yitziv,' is being rapidly constructed in the Ush Ghurab area of Beit Sahour. Their massive buildings are already encroaching on nearby land.

Sabeel-Kairos - a Christian charity that campaigns for human rights, justice and equality for Palestinians, says: "This outpost directly threatens the local community and the Palestinian Christian presence in the Holy Land. Words are not enough - we need action!"

They advise:

'Urge your Church Leaders to issue a public statement of solidarity with all Palestinian communities facing displacement and land confiscation.

Share this post to expose settlement expansion taking place right next to Bethlehem.

'Take action by writing to your local MP to demand international law be upheld.
