Christian Art's latest video follows Fr Patrick van der Vorst as he explores one of Christianity's richest and most enduring symbols: the Lamb of God. Beginning with Francisco de Zurbarán's Agnus Dei at the National Gallery, he uncovers how the image of a bound lamb points to Christ's sacrifice.
Travelling to Wintershall to encounter newborn lambs, he reflects on their innocence and gentleness before tracing the symbolism of the lamb through Scripture-from Abraham and Isaac, the Passover in Egypt, and Isaiah's suffering servant to John the Baptist's proclamation: "Behold the Lamb of God."
The journey concludes at Westminster Cathedral, where Fr Patrick is given rare access to the ancient Pallium, woven from lamb's wool and bestowed by the Pope on metropolitan archbishops. Joined by Archbishop Richard Moth, he explores how this remarkable vestment unites the symbolism of the Lamb of God and Christ the Good Shepherd, revealing how a single image has inspired Christian art, shaped the Church's liturgy, and continues to proclaim Christ's sacrifice, mercy and saving love today.
