Redemptorists correct record after SSPX schism sparks misinformation over 'Transalpine' congregation

Fr Rogério Gomes, CSsR
Following the illicit episcopal consecrations carried out by the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) on 1 July 2026, misinformation circulated online suggesting that the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) was connected to the community commonly known as the 'Transalpine Redemptorists' (on Papa Stronsay, a small island in Orkney, Scotland).
To address this confusion, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, Fr Rogério Gomes, CSsR, has issued the following clarification.
The statement explains the historical origins of the name 'Transalpine Redemptorists' distinguishes the Congregation from the community now known as the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer (FSSR), and reaffirms the Redemptorists' full communion with the Catholic Church, the Holy Father and the teaching of the Second Vatican Council.
Fr Gomes said: "Various false, inaccurate, and historically uninformed reports have circulated through social media… improperly associating the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer with groups that do not belong to its canonical structure."
