Petition: No to military conscription

For the first time in generations, the threat of military conscription or mandatory national service in the UK seems very real.
Conscription is already in place for nine of Europe's NATO states. Other countries, such as Germany and Italy, are considering adopting policies to boost their armed forces.
The UK working group for International Conscientious Objectors' Day, ( whose members include Pax Christi, Peace & Justice (Scotland), Anglican Pacifist Fellowship, Conscience: Taxes For Peace Not War and the Fellowship of Reconciliation), have drawn up a petition to the government opposing conscription.
They say: "Forcing young people into military service deprives them of liberty and choices at a vital time in their lives. Plus, it would be a colossal waste of public funds during a cost of living crisis, when those resources are desperately needed elsewhere.
Joining the armed forces is a political and moral choice that should never be forced on anyone."
