New Director of Pontifical Mission Societies in Taiwan appointed

Cardinal Luis Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, has appointed Father Sean O'Leary, CSSp, Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Taiwan for a five-year term (2026-2031).

The new Director of the PMS was born in Ireland in 1967 and belongs to the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, (Spiritans) and was ordained on June 8, 1997. In December 1997, he arrived in Taiwan, where he studied Chinese for two years. From 2000 to 2008, he served in the parish of the Holy Spirit, working with the marginalized youth in Hsinchu, a diocese where he also served as prison chaplain. From 2008 to 2013, he returned to Ireland, where he served as Councilor of the Irish Province for his Congregation. Subsequently, from 2013 to 2015, he served as parish priest of St Ronans Parish, in the Diocese of Dublin.

In 2015, he returned to Taiwan to serve in the Diocese of Taichung and in the parishes of Houli and Dongshi, where he also taught English. Since 2019, he has been the Superior of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit for the Province of Taiwan.
