The Angels' Share at Farm Street Church Film Club

'The Angels' Share' is this month's choice at Farm Street Church Film Club next Thursday, 30 April.
This 2012 comedy-drama film, directed by Ken Loach and starring Paul Brannigan, John Henshaw, and William Ruane has been described as 'an uplifting story of scoundrels who become rascals and end up finding redemption'.
Set in Glasgow, it tells the story of a young father who narrowly avoids a prison sentence. He is determined to turn over a new leaf and when he and his friends from the same community payback group visit a whisky distillery, a route to a new life becomes apparent
The film won the Jury Prize at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and, before you ask 'angels' share' is a term for the portion of a whisky's volume that is lost to evaporation during ageing in oak barrels. The film closes with the Proclaimers' classic 1988 track 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)'. Must be good!
The Angels' Share is at the Tim Hetherington Film Club at Farm Street - in the Arrupe Hall, 6.30pm for 7pm on Thursday 30 April 2026.
Cost: no charge, free refreshments but donations are welcome
