Usama Nicola writes in Bethlehem Updates:

Today, (21 March) we celebrate Mother's Day in Palestine and across the Middle East, a day of love, gratitude, and family warmth. Yet this year it carries a deeper weight.

I send my heartfelt love and prayers to my precious mother, my beloved wife, my mother-in-law, my sisters in law, my brothers' wives, and to all the incredible mothers everywhere. May you always be surrounded by health, peace, and love.

Mother's Day here is not just a date on the calendar. It is a day when children visit their mothers with flowers, sweets, and handwritten cards. Families gather to share meals and moments that remain in the heart. Schools fill the air with songs and poems, celebrating the women who hold everything together.

For many Palestinian mothers, this day feels unlike any other. It carries a quiet heaviness arm that hold on a little longer, hearts that wait in uncertainty, and constant efforts to create comfort in an unsettled world. Between silent celebrations and unspoken grief, their strength endures, guiding them to keep going no matter how difficult life becomes.

This reflection is beautifully echoed in a poster by the Palestinian artist Nabil Anani. His work places a woman at the center of a Palestinian landscape, highlighting her role as a pillar of daily life, culture, and resilience. Dressed in traditional embroidered attire (tatreez), she becomes more than a figure, she represents heritage, identity, and the enduring spirit of a people.

Still, their love shines through in the simplest acts, a meal prepared with care, a gentle word, an unwavering presence. They are the quiet power that keeps hope alive.

It is no coincidence that Mother's Day arrives with the beginning of spring, the season of renewal and balance. Just as the earth blooms again, mothers continue to nurture life, hope, and resilience, even in the hardest times.

Today we honoUr not only their love, but also their patience, courage, and the light they bring into even the darkest days.

Happy Mother's Day to every mother, everywhere.
