New Hall School, Chelmsford, is proud to announce that it has become an Associate member of the Choir Schools' Association, an organisation dedicated to supporting the education of choristers in schools, cathedrals and churches.

Founded in 1642 and steeped in a rich liturgical heritage, New Hall has a long-standing reputation for excellence in music. The Chapel Choir is a mixed-voice ensemble of approximately 50 singers, comprising 18 boys and 32 girls, from Year 3 to Year 13, and supplemented by a small number of adult singers. The choir sings at Mass every Sunday during term time and performs regularly in prominent venues including New Hall's historic Chapel, Chelmsford Cathedral, Brentwood Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral and, most recently, King's College Chapel, Cambridge.

Mr Turner, Director of Music, said: "Joining the Choir Schools' Association recognises the quality of our choral provision. It supports our vision to place young musicians at the centre of a thriving liturgical tradition."

The School's Music Department is centred on its historic Chapel and has received national recognition. New Hall recently became an accredited institution of the Royal College of Organists (RCO), becoming the first Catholic independent school in the United Kingdom to receive this prestigious status. Around 500 students from Reception to Year 13 take individual instrumental lessons, and the curriculum is enriched by regular concerts, liturgies, and recitals, as well as participation in national competitions. Students have reached the finals of the ISA Young Musician and Musical Theatre competitions.

In addition to its school choirs, New Hall has launched a new choral society, the Beaulieu Park Singers, bringing together local residents, parents, staff and members of the boarding community through a shared love of music. Now with more than 30 members, the choir meets every Tuesday in the School's Chapel and continues to grow as a vibrant and inclusive musical community. Local residents wishing to join are invited to contact j.turner@newhallschool.co.uk.

New Hall School is leading independent boarding & day school for 1,400 students aged 1-19; it is the UK's largest Catholic school, and one of the oldest, founded in 1642.
