The Vicars for Religious from dioceses across England and Wales have just held their annual conference at Hinsley Hall in Leeds, together with Bishop Alan Williams of Brentwood, the link with the Bishops Conference.
Bishop Alan's input was important to keep the group aware of the national perspective, as well as the more local knowledge gained by individuals updating one another on what was happening in Consecrated Life in their various dioceses, creating much-appreciated supportive links both during and outside of the formal sessions.
The conference also appreciated a stimulating presentation from Sr Moira O'Sullivan, CRSS, as she shared how her community had worked to be clear about its values, its legacy, and how it desires to remain in mission and alive to the end, even as it approaches the completion of its mission in England after 383 years. The presentation launched some helpful exchanges about how the group could use its learnings from this in various other situations.
Praying together, times of silence together and sharing the Eucharist were all equally important aspects of the gathering, and of course the setting of Hinsley Hall was hugely appreciated.
Participants praised the "Camaraderie; excellent inputs; the presence of Bishop Alan; I enjoyed the JOY of everyone; first time here - a great experience, informative, inspiring, all round good."
