Vatican astronomer visits Mount St Mary's College

Br Guy Consolmagno with Fr Peter Scally (and Penny) during his visit
Students at Mount St Mary's College, Spinkhill, were treated to an extraordinary encounter today as Guy Consolmagno SJ - American research astronomer, physicist, Jesuit brother, and director of the Vatican Observatory - visited the school to share insights from a life dedicated to science and faith.
Br Consolmagno captivated students with stories from his decades of astronomical research, his spiritual journey to becoming a Jesuit brother, and his appointment as director of the Vatican Observatory - a role he was personally entrusted with by the late Pope Francis.
Students were allowed to engage directly with the Vatican scientist in a Q&A session that sparked thoughtful discussion. Questions were asked about his research on connections between meteorites and asteroids, and what the most fascinating thing he has seen through a telescope is.
As a Jesuit school, we were delighted to have welcomed Guy to Mount St Mary's College and to have learned from his unique experience of his life working in science and faith.
