Book: The Dog Walker's Guide to God

The Dog Walker's Guide to God: 52 Musings on Companionship, Divine and Canine, by Henry Martin, Publishing 28th September 2023

A gorgeous, original gift book, filled with stunning illustrations. The Dog Walker's Guide to God is designed to help dog-lovers reflect on the wonders and mysteries of God and faith.

Popular writer and artist Henry Martin offers a simple five-minute read (and a hand-drawn illustration) to explore just before setting out on your walk. These 52 readings will provoke thoughts to ponder while your dog pursues its own thoughts by your side.

Henry says: "I began this short book intending a light-hearted series of paddlings and splashings about, but as I progressed I found myself wading into deeper waters. I should not be surprised: questions about God can penetrate all the way to the human core. The same can be said for our love for our dogs. The 50 sections deal with the everyday (housetraining, basic obedience, toys, instructions), the profound (questions about crime, punishment, the afterlife), the physiological and psychological differences between humans and dogs and the disgusting (why they pee so much and then scoot their rears over the new carpet)."

Henry Martin is an artist, writer and ordained Anglican minister. He has written the acclaimed books Eavesdropping and Alongside, and he has also illustrated Brian Sibley's book Joseph and the Three Gifts. He has worked in ministry in Dagenham, Salford and most recently for seven years as the Managing Chaplain at HMP Manchester (Strangeways).
