2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day after it was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1973. The world Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June and it is a global platform for raising awareness and taking action on critical environmental issues. It serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the planet we call home.

The theme for World Environment Day 2023 is #BeatPlasticPollution. It is a reminder that people's actions on plastic pollution matter. It is time to quicken up this action and transition to a circular economy.

World Environment Day 2023 is hosted by Côte d'Ivoire and supported by the Netherlands and the theme will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. It is a reminder that people's actions on plastic pollution matters.

It is shocking to know that our planet is chocking on plastic. It is time to change how we produce, consume and dispose of the plastic we use. Today we produce around 400 million tonnes of plastic waste every year and less than 10% of it is recycled. An estimated 19-23 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas.

It is a great concern for all of us which calls for immediate action. This presentation is an attempt to create awareness on the issue of plastic pollution on the occasion of World Environment Day 2023 and the ways and means we can respond to this situation.

You can share it with others in order to spread the message and theme #BeatPlasticPollution.
