National Network of Pastoral Musicians - Conference places available

  • Stephen Dean

It is four years since the National Network of Pastoral Musicians (NNPM) has been able to meet face to face. In 2020 a planned conference was cancelled because of Covid, and in 2021 an online-only weekend was organised.

Now in 2022 the NNPM is back, with the theme "Behold I am making all things new" (Apocalypse 21:5) and the subtitle "remaking our lives after the shocks of Covid and the war in Ukraine." The conference will be held at The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire, 29-31 July. A Catholic Mass and an Anglican Eucharist are part of the programme.

The NNPM is a nondenominational organisation and always has a non-musical subject for its conference so that musicians of different churches can pray and study it together. The main presenters are Mgr Tony Rogers who will speak on 'Uniting the Real and Virtual Parish', and Marty Haugen whose title is 'Behold I make all things new'. Marty Haugen, a composer, writer and pastoral musician from Minneapolis, USA, will additionally be running a workshop: 'After the pandemic: From virtual to real'.

Workshop leaders include Christopher Walker, the former Director of Music at Clifton Cathedral who now lives in California but is familiar in Britain and internationally for his music and creativity. Also, Martin Foster, Director of the Liturgy Office of the Catholic Bishops' Conference, a composer and pastoral musician.

The conference, at The Hayes, Swanwick, is residential but a certain number of non-residents are welcome on Saturday 30 July.
