Today's Gospel in Art - Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News

Gospel of 10th April 2021 - Mark 16:9-15
Having risen in the morning on the first day of the week, Jesus appeared first to Mary of Magdala from whom he had cast out seven devils. She then went to those who had been his companions, and who were mourning and in tears, and told them. But they did not believe her when they heard her say that he was alive and that she had seen him.
After this, he showed himself under another form to two of them as they were on their way into the country. These went back and told the others, who did not believe them either.
Lastly, he showed himself to the Eleven themselves while they were at table. He reproached them for their incredulity and obstinacy, because they had refused to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. And he said to them, 'Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation.'
Reflection on the Painting
I admit, today's painting is somewhat bizarre. Titled 'Prince of Peace', we see Jesus knocking on the door of the United Nations building in New York City. As the Prince of Peace, only He is able to bring true peace to all nations. I don't know whether I like this painting or not. On the positive side, the placement of Christ in a more contemporary setting does give a clear message that Jesus is present here, now and always. On the less positive side, the towering figure of Christ is almost like something out of a Hollywood movie, where giants roam the streets of New York. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. There is comment section underneath every daily writing on our website.
Born in 1906, Harry Anderson was a very modest, quiet, unassuming man who did not seek the limelight, even though he received many awards for his artworks. To him, serving God through making artworks was his vocation. He is a perfect example of someone who put into practice today's Gospel reading of 'Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News', using his own, unique talents… for the whole world to see, represented at the United Nations….
