Bristol Creation Celebrations

  • Elouise Hobbs

Recently, the community of Bristol came together to hold two events to celebrate the environment and campaign to tackle climate change.

St Bonaventure's parish in Bristol, was transformed for the Creation Celebration, which was organised by CAFOD volunteers to raise awareness of the effects of climate change.

After the Masses, which took place in the morning and evening and included special readings around the theme of the environment, the congregation came together to sign a petition addressed to UK government asking for faster and more effective climate action.

The St Bonaventure's CAFOD volunteers group at the parish said: "Our team and parish priest Fr Tom Smith organised the two events wonderfully."

The Creation Celebration continued in the parish presbytery main room where there was a discussion about the importance of nature to local life.

The group continued: "Both Masses also had excellent discussions and the evening event also included a short video on the climate crisis, and why it is so essential we are all engaging with this critical campaign."

The morning celebration was followed by tea and coffee, whilst the evening event was followed by a shared meal - a feast enjoyed by all.

This was one of many Creation Celebration events, inspired by CAFOD's 'Our Common Home' campaign and organised by CAFOD volunteers around the country. It is hoped the events will highlight the growing concern for the environment and start new conversations about climate change.
