London: Cardinal Hume Centre appoints new CEO

The Cardinal Hume Centre has announced the appointment of George O'Neill as its new Chief Executive, who will take up the post from early July 2018.

Selected from a very strong field of candidates, George brings with him exceptional leadership skills along with extensive experience of the not-for-profit sector. He currently works as the Director and Community Leader of L'Arche London, part of an international charity providing housing and support to adults with learning disabilities. Previously George held several senior positions within higher education, national and local government, as well as non-governmental organisations.

George will succeed Cathy Corcoran, OBE, who has led the Cardinal Hume Centre with distinction for the last 15 years. She leaves the charity - which is dedicated to helping people overcome poverty and the threat of homelessness - in a position of strength. The Centre currently runs a range of high quality specialist services which help some of the most vulnerable and isolated people in London; it has a team of 65 dedicated staff and a bank of more than 100 volunteers; and it is about to embark on a £1m redevelopment of its premises to improve clients' experiences at the Centre.

Announcing the new CEO appointment, Robert Arnott, the Cardinal Hume Centre's Chair of Trustees said: "'I am delighted that George O'Neill has agreed to be the next head of the Cardinal Hume Centre, building on Cathy Corcoran's 15 years of outstanding leadership. The Centre has a strong track record in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society, in its careful use of donor's money, in its diligence in safeguarding, and in its vibrant and professional workforce. The trustees look forward to the Centre's future successes, building on strong foundations.'"

Outgoing CEO Cathy Corcoran OBE said: I'm very happy to be handing over the reins to George and I wish him every success. It has been an absolute privilege to lead the Centre in helping and supporting so many people for whom we are literally a lifeline. I am sure that George will enjoy bringing his wide range of skills and experience to shape the future of the charity, and I've no doubt he will enjoy working with everyone associated with the Centre."

Reflecting on his appointment, George O'Neill said: "I am delighted to be joining the Cardinal Hume Centre and to be given the opportunity to be part its vital work.
