Temperatures have plummeted across the country over the last few weeks. For homeless people spending most of their time on the streets this icy weather can be life-threatening. A group of SVP volunteers held a day-long collection at Marylebone Station on 16 January, to fund cold weather essentials for the homeless. They raised over £2400.

The Vinnie Packs, containing a thermal hat, thermal gloves and thermal socks, emergency foil blanket, toothbrush, toothpaste, pen and information sheet, are put together by the St Vincent de Paul Society in Westminster Diocese.

This winter 10,000 packs have been distributed to homeless projects throughout England and Wales.

Each Vinnie Pack costs SVP members only £3 to put together and all monies raised goes to the project as there are no administration costs.

Organiser Siobhan Garibaldi said: "People were very generous. I think many people feel concerned about the homeless when it gets this cold. We are very grateful to Chiltern Railways for allowing us to collect in their station."

To sponsor Vinnie Packs, donations can be sent to PO Box 72264, London SW1P 9EZ or go to virginmoneygiving.com and type Vinnie Packs into the “Sponsor a friend” section. Each donation helps the SVP members get a Vinnie Pack to someone in need on the streets.
