Celebrate Feast of Saint Francis with on-line Peace Concert
The US-based Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have published a streaming Peace Concert on their website this month, to honour the Feast Day of St Francis and Pope Francis Intention of Prayers for World Peace.
The concert comprises songs from diverse genres. Austin-based songwriter Sam Baker’s 'Go In Peace' begins as a benediction to “Go in peace, go in kindness, go in love, go in faith.”
Jazz bassist and composer Jaime Ousley‘s 'Holy Water' was written as a reverent hymn for water. Ousley reflected that “As water becomes increasingly more threatened as an environmental resource, I hope we can learn to become better stewards of the planet we have been entrusted to care for.”
Kurt Kaiser’s modern Christian standard 'Pass It On' is sung by Oscar Chavez from Yuma Arizona. According to Kaiser: “I am always amazed how the Lord can take a little song and use it to reach so many people. It has been sung at countless weddings and funerals, at ordination services, by the Sea of Galilee… and lots of camps.”
St Anne’s Catholic Parish Choir from Houston Texas offers the poignant ‘O Vos Omnes’. The text quotes from the prophet Jeremiah, and expresses a sense of profound sorrow, concretely realized when St Anne Choir sang this powerful text as the Execution Wall in the Camp at Auschwitz on All Soul’s Day, 2007.
'Pace e Bene' by Song and Spirit’s Franciscan Brother Al Mascia, OFM and Maggid Steve Kaper is inspired by St Francis’ greeting, and the greeting of many Franciscan todays. The Song and Spirit Institute for Peace promotes ecumenical
dialogue, peacemaking and education through Music, Art, organic farming and compassionate acts of community service.
'Peace and All Good' is the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity’s theme song, an invitation to follow your call from God and find peace in yourself, others and the world around you.
