Lecture: Is climate change a confessional issue for Churches?

Professor Tim Gorringe will address one of the crucial questions facing the church in our world today when he gives the 2011 Operation Noah Annual Lecture. He will ask whether we can call ourselves Christians if we ignore climate change. How much does it matter if we destroy creation? What is involved in being a confessing church in relation to climate change and what relationship is there between climate change and the global economy? Gorringe, a well-known theologian, will end with concrete recommendations.
Tim Gorringe is St Luke's Professor of Theology in Exeter University and a member of Operation Noah's Theology advisory group. His academic interests focus on the inter-relationships between theology, social science, art and politics. Gorringe is the author of more than twenty books, the most recent of which; ' The Common Good and the Global Emergency ', addresses the issue of climate change and the built environment.
Chris Elliott, Secretary for External Relationships, the Methodist Church in Britain, will make a response to Professor Gorringe's talk, and then questions will be taken. Refreshments will be available following the talk.
