A four-day film festival celebrating the life and mission of Blessed Mother Teresa will take place later this month in her adopted hometown of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state in eastern India, in the run-up to her canonisation ceremony on September 4 in the Vatican.
Predominantly featuring documentaries, the Mother Teresa International Film Festival (MTIFF) which takes place from August 26-29. state, will be held at the Nandan multiplex, Kolkata's prestigious film and cultural centre owned by the state government.
Organised by the Indian chapter of SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communication, the film festival will also travel to numerous locations around India and then go overseas. This is the fourth Mother Teresa film festival to be organised by Signis. The first one took place soon after her beatification in 2003.
