National Gathering in support of Holy Land Christians

Friends of the Holy Land will host a day of action on Saturday 30 September in support of Christians living in the West Bank, Gaza, Israel and Jordan. Since forming eight years ago, the apolitical charity has helped UK Christians express solidarity with Christians living in the Holy Land. FHL's achievements have been significant, raising over £3.1 million enabling them to support over 2,000 vulnerable Christians every year.

The 'National Gathering', to be held in Kenilworth, is free to attend and open to anyone wanting to find out more about the lives of today's 'Living Stones'. The event will introduce Husam Wahhab, a lecturer at Bethlehem University and member of FHL's Holy Land Committee.

Along with fellow West Bank Christians Husam faces daily challenges such as water shortages and restrictions on travel. Faced with these harsh realities many West Bank Christians reluctantly emigrate, leaving their home and the land where Jesus was born, lived and died. In a recent phone call, Husam, the father of five, confided that he is "scared of so many things". Yet, despite these fears, Husam stays in Bethlehem, demonstrating a humble and awe-inspiring commitment to live out his faith in the service of his fellow West Bank Christians.

Peter Rand Vice Chairman and Executive Trustee of FHL said: "FHL are extremely proud to bring Husam's testimony to the UK. This will be his first visit to this country and we look forward to sharing his story, and showing how his work with FHL 'Gives Hope to Vulnerable Christians' living in the West Bank, Gaza, Israel and Jordan, and explaining what more can be done."

Marion Homer, Communications Manager for FHL said: "Many UK Christians know something of the challenges faced by Christians living in the Middle East. Many want to reach out, to show them they are not forgotten, but feel powerless to act because of the political situation.

Friends of the Holy Land is a Christian charity. FHL patron's include the Archbishop of Canterbury and Cardinal Vincent Nichols and we enable UK Christians to support vulnerable Christians living in the Holy Land. Our National Gathering is a free event and we hope that many Christians will join us to find out how they can help."

The event is free to attend but registration prior to the event is requested if possible. For more information on the National Gathering and details of how to book, please go to FHL's website: www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk
