Foculare UK Tour

Foculare - a lay Catholic society founded in Italy in 1943 to support positive change in the world - is busy preparing for a special project with young people which will take place from October to December this year in different parts of Scotland, England and Wales. Gen Verde, one of Foculare's international performing arts groups is coming from Loppiano, Tuscany - to work with schools in a series of five-day workshops (music, drama, percussion, dance).

Their UK tour will take them to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Lanarkshire, Hertfordshire, Birmingham, Ripon, Liverpool, Oxford, London, Portsmouth and Plymouth. They will be working with young people in schools largely in disadvantaged areas where there is knife crime, racial conflict, sectarianism, and the project will have a strong interfaith dimension.

Their material will draw on their new CD 'On the Other Side' which covers themes of justice & peace, refugees/migration, war & conflict, peace-building, the environment and includes a song from one of the Salvadorean members on Archbishop Romero.

There is good take up on the project from a number of Catholic Dioceses, as well as the Sikh community in Birmingham where a temporary Foculare community will be present for six months from the end of September.

The project offers young people a shared lived experience of Gospel values starting from the issues they face day to day. The schools partnering with Foculare are also committed to taking forward the legacy of peace and dialogue.
