Bishops of England and Wales express solidarity with people of the Holy Land
Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor and Archbishop Patrick Kelly, Archbishop of Liverpool, sent the following message to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusakem yesterday. Your Beatitude, Every day we are confronted by news of escalating violence and of the deepening human tragedy in the Holy Land, particularly in Gaza. We write to assure you that we are one with you and the Christians of the Holy Land in your rejection of all violence and injustice and in your fidelity to our Lord, Jesus of Nazareth, who is our reconciliation and our peace. At this time of trial for the peoples of the Holy Land, the Catholic community of England and Wales are praying for a swift and just resolution of the present emergency and for a return to negotiations that would secure lasting peace for all. With prayerful best wishes, Yours in Christ, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales Archbishop Patrick Kelly Archbishop of Liverpool and Vice-President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales
