Hegseth and the American Religion

For many commentators on both sides of the Atlantic, Pete Hegseth's 'State of the Force' address (September 30, Quantico VA) in which he announced the Pentagon's new 'Office of Religious Affairs', was further evidence of the entrenchment of 'Christian nationalism' at the heart of the US Government.
Whilst the analysis is correct, it is high time the media revisited this terminology.
'Christian nationalism' is nothing other than a political and ideological construct driven by US supremacism, identity and power.
Marshalling Christian faith to bolster the 'combat effectiveness' of the US military, is not Christian - it is simply draping a bloodied hand around the figure of Christ.
Let's call it what it really is: The American religion.
Editors, please take note.
