The Iona Institute reports: A new movie about Tuam Children's Home is just out. One of the producers is Liam Neeson and is called 'The Lost Children of Tuam'. It deals with Catherine Corless's quest to find out what happened to the children who spent time in the home, and in particular, how many died, why, and where they are buried. The movie places nearly all the blame on the Bon Secours Sisters who ran the home.
But as David Quinn explains in a piece for The Wall Street Journal, the movie leaves out some very important facts including:
- Galway County Council's responsibility for the high infant mortality rate in the home.
- The fact that Galway County Council was legally responsible for the burials.
- The fact that married mothers and their children were also in the home, and many of those children tragically died there also.
- The fact that all the bodies found by the dig currently taking place at the site have been found in coffins, and not in a 'septic tank'.
