Letter re Catholic education in Aberdeen

I read with interest today the article about Catholic secondary education in Aberdeen. This debate has been active for well over 50 years. see: Aberdeen parents question Council's refusal to consider Catholic secondary school

I attended St Peter's School in Nelson Street in Aberdeen from 1962-1973. My father Mr Jack Slevin was the Headteacher from 1956-1973.

I recall the debate relating to providing a new Catholic Secondary ( 1971 ) following the introduction of the comprehensive school system. There was even a name chosen - Bishop Elphinstone Academy. The proposal was denied by the local authority.

My father retired from his post in 1973 and our family relocated to the West of Scotland.

The local authority did not appoint a successor and the school transitioned to closure in 1975, marking an end to Catholic Secondary Education in Aberdeen.
