Liverpool: Catholic schools celebrate excellent A-level and BTEC grades

The long-awaited exam results are finally through, and once again, a record number of students at Catholic schools in Liverpool are celebrating excellent A-level and BTEC grades. Congratulations to all! The following schools have sent in their results - so far.

St Francis Xavier's Catholic Academy, Woolton

Strong results pave the way for exciting futures at St Francis Xavier's Catholic Academy Sixth Form

The hard work and determination of students at St Francis Xavier's Catholic Academy Sixth Form (SFX) in Woolton was rewarded yesterday (Thursday, 13 August) as they proudly received their A-level and BTEC results.

Students arrived at the sixth form early to share the pivotal moment with friends and families as they prepare to take the next steps towards university, apprenticeships, employment and further study.

There were plenty of smiles as students collected the envelopes containing their results, with staff on hand to provide advice and support as they plan for the opportunities ahead.

St Francis Xavier's Catholic Academy Sixth Form, which is proud to be part of St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust (SJCMAT), has seen a wide range of achievements across its sixth form this year, with students securing strong results in both A-level and BTEC courses.

This year's results include 85 per cent of A-level students heading to university, of which 60 per cent are heading to their first choice, with 62 per cent of A-level students achieving grades A* to C, 94 per cent achieving A* to E, and 74 per cent of BTEC students securing Distinction to Merit grades.

Heading to the University of Liverpool is Zak Mainwaring, who achieved A*, A*, A in geography, history, and religious studies and will be studying law.

Zak said: "I am absolutely buzzing with my results and so excited for my future. Thank you to all the staff at SFX who have supported and challenged me over the years to succeed as I have."

Teddy Watson, who received A, B, B in geography, chemistry, biology, will be studying medicinal chemistry.

Teddy commented: "All the hard work has paid off for me and I am delighted. I would like to thank the teachers at SFX who really pushed me to achieve what I have."

Aiden Barnett, who received C, C, D in history, criminology, and religious studies, has secured an apprenticeship with Tesco.

Fellow student, Paddy Donnelly, who achieved D, C, Merit in biology, religious studies and music, is now progressing to St Helen's College to study music production.

Paddy said: "I've overcome some challenges, and I am really happy with my results; I am now going on to study my passion for music further. I am grateful to the teachers at SFX who have supported me."

Jacob McGregor secured Distinction*, C, C in business, history and criminology, and is following his preferred pathway into quantity surveying.

Jacob commented: "I am very happy that my hard work and efforts have paid off, and I am looking forward to my future".

All Saints Sixth Form College, Garston

Students at All Saints Sixth Form College are looking ahead to exciting futures after collecting their A-level and BTEC results yesterday.

Based at The Academy of St Nicholas in Garston, All Saints Sixth Form College welcomes students from across Liverpool, with this year's cohort progressing to a wide range of destinations including university, apprenticeships and employment.

The college, which is part of All Saints Multi Academy Trust, has once again celebrated a year of improved examination outcomes, with students achieving strong results across a wide range of subjects.

English, mathematics, computer science, criminology, business, sport and IT all recorded further improvements, reflecting the dedication, hard work and resilience of students, alongside the commitment and expertise of staff. These results continue the college's upward trajectory and highlight its ongoing focus on delivering high-quality teaching and learning across the curriculum.

The results mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter as students take their next steps towards university, apprenticeships, and the world of work.

Pacifique Ruhana and Roman Joseph have both been accepted by the University of Liverpool to study computer science.

Sahand Mohammed has been accepted at Liverpool John Moores University to study pharmacy, and Ranudi Hettiarachchi has accepted a place at the University of Greenwich to study law.

St John Plessington Catholic College, Bebington

Students at St John Plessington Catholic College's sixth form had cause for celebration, as they received their A-level and BTEC results yesterday.

From 8'30am, students and family members were greeted by staff at the school, which is a proud member of Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy, to discover the outcome of two years of hard work, dedication and commitment.

This year, St John Plessington has recorded improved A-level results, with 77 per cent of students achieving A* - C grades. Overall, 97 per cent of students achieved A* - E grades, and 98 per cent of those completing vocational subjects secured Distinction* - Merit.

Among the students celebrating today is Charlotte Williams, who achieved an impressive A*, A, A in sociology, English language and media respectively. Charlotte will now be heading to the University of Liverpool to study anthropology.

Many more St John Plessington students are also celebrating alongside Charlotte, including Georgina Thurston, who achieved A, A, B in English literature, religious studies and history, and is progressing to Durham University to study history.

Charlie Bell achieved A, B, Distinction and is progressing to Leeds University to study human geography.

Charlie said: "A special shout out to the geography department for believing in me!"

Liz Joseph, who achieved Distinction*, A, B in business, maths and product design, has been accepted by the University of Reading to study accountancy and finance.

Giving advice to future St John Plessington sixth form students, Liz said: "Work as hard as you can, enjoy your time with friends and teachers, and the rest will follow."

Sophie Haslam achieved B, Distinction*, Distinction in design technology, business and sport.

Sophie said: "I'm absolutely over the moon with my results. I'm looking forward to studying international business at the University of Leeds. I would like to say a huge thank you to SJP for getting me here."

Leon Roberts secured Distinction*, A, A in applied science, psychology and sociology, and is now progressing to the University of Liverpool to study psychology.

While Bithiah Alwin George achieved A, B, B in psychology, religious studies and geography, and will now be going on to study global development at the University of Manchester.

Bithiah said: "I was so nervous coming in today, but when I opened my results, I was so happy and made up because I knew how much effort I have put in. I'm so glad for all my A-level teachers and head of learning for their support and guiding me throughout the years."

St Mary's Catholic College, Wallasey

Sixth form students at St Mary's Catholic College, Wallasey, are preparing to progress on their chosen future pathways after receiving their A-level, T-level and BTEC results yesterday,

This year's cohort of students have shown dedication and determination towards their studies with support from the sixth form's excellent staff, and today's results perfectly embody the school's vision of working together to succeed together.

Students taking vocational subjects at St Mary's Catholic College, a proud member of Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust, have performed half a grade higher than students nationally, securing an average grade of Merit+.

With strong results secured this morning, all students at St Mary's have accessed their chosen destinations, including Amaia McCrystal who is heading to Durham University after achieving A, B, B in religious studies, history and psychology respectively.

The school's head students, who have acted as role models for students in the lower years, have also continued to set a fantastic example. Lily-May Rimmer achieved Distinction* and Distinction in health and social care, and a C in sociology, while Nathan Smathers achieved Merits across the board in media, business and ICT.

Other notable successes include Ashley Shaw, who achieved Distinctions in business and double ICT, and will be joining Liverpool Edge Hill University in September to study computer science.

Lily Lloyd and Roisin Keane are both progressing to Edge Hill University to study primary teaching. Lily achieved a Distinction* in health and social care, Distinction in child development and a C in psychology, and Roisin secured a Merit in T-level education and early years.

St John Bosco Arts College, Croxteth

Students at St John Bosco Arts College Sixth Form attended school yesterday [Thursday, 13 August] to celebrate the culmination of their A-level and BTEC studies as they collected their results.

The co-educational sixth form's students have made exceptional progress, both academically and personally, which is testament to the dedication and commitment they have demonstrated towards their two years of study, as well as the exceptional support they have received from the school's teaching and support staff.

This year, St John Bosco Arts College Sixth Form has continued to see further improvement in its A-level outcomes, alongside exceptional results for its vocational provision:

72 per cent of A-level grades awarded were A* - C, a significant increase of 24 per cent in comparison to 2025.

Applied general students achieved particularly impressive results, with an average grade of Merit+ and a 100 per cent pass rate across all subjects.

42 per cent of applied general grades were awarded at Distinction* or Distinction, with 94 per cent awarded at Merit or above.
Following this morning's celebrations, students are now preparing to embark on the next stage of their journeys, with many progressing to university, starting degree apprenticeships and going into full-time employment, equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence they have gained during their time at St John Bosco Arts College Sixth Form.

Alannah is one of those students. Having achieved A*, Distinction*, C in criminology, law and English, she is off to study criminology at Liverpool Hope University.

Alannah said: "I'm really proud of what I've achieved. All the hard work over the last two years has paid off, and I'm really excited to take the next step and see what the future holds."

Other students celebrating include Yuan, who achieved Distinctions across the board in applied biology, applied science and sport. He is now preparing to start an apprenticeship with the NHS.

Lena received two Distinctions and a B in business, psychology and criminology and has accepted a place at Liverpool John Moores University to study forensic psychology.

Eva secured a Distinction* and two Cs in psychology, maths and geography. She is progressing on to study accountancy and finance at the University of York.

Evie achieved a Distinction, Merit and C in law, psychology and criminology. She will be joining Eva at the University of York to study criminology.

Head of sixth form, Miss Charlotte Lyon, said: "I would like to congratulate all students who have collected their A-level and BTEC results this morning. They have worked incredibly hard to get to today, and it has been wonderful to celebrate not only their achievements, but also the remarkable progress they have made over the past two years.

Notre Dame Catholic Academy, Everton

Students at Notre Dame Catholic Academy Sixth Form, Everton, celebrated yesterday following a strong set of 2026 external examination outcomes.

Students and their families returned to the academy this morning to collect their results following two years of hard work and commitment, supported by excellent tuition and pastoral care from the sixth form's exceptional staff.

Notre Dame Catholic Academy Sixth Form, which is part of the St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust, has seen improvements across A-level, applied general and technical pathways with increases in attainment, average grades and student progress, recording an overall value added score of +0.69.

Among the many outstanding achievements were those of Hanna Gigu, who achieved A, A*, Distinction * in art, design and technology, and health and social care.

Other notable successes include Olumide Adewunmi, whose commitment to their studies earned them Distinction*,Distinction*, Distinction in business, IT and sport.

Olumide said: "I am pleased with my time at Notre Dame, I got the results that I needed to go to university - which I am more than happy with!"

Naomi Otaru also secured Distinction*, Distinction*, Distinction in business, psychology and IT respectively.

Maggie Maguire will be heading to the University of Liverpool to study law after achieving A, A, B in art, criminology and English.

Maggie reflected: "I have loved my time at Notre Dame; it has been supportive and allowed me to achieve the grades necessary to get to my chosen university!"

Meanwhile, Jessica Stephens and Ellie Hughes both achieved Distinction*, Distinction, A. Jessica, who studied psychology, health and social care, and criminology, is now progressing to Liverpool John Moores University to study psychology.

Jessica said: "My time at Notre Dame has been the best ever. It has prepared me for my next steps to university and because of their support, I am able to attend John Moores to study psychology!"
