Work and prayer: Brewing beer alongside the monks of Mount St Bernard Abbey

Source: All Kinds of Catholic
Peter, this week's guest on the All Kinds of Catholic podcast, explores the impact on his life and his faith of managing both the brewery and the estate at England's only Trappist monastery.
The episode joins the library of more than 90 weekly All Kinds of Catholic podcast conversations, uncovering how Catholics are living their faith in today's world.
Here, Peter talks about learning to make progress prayerfully at a pace set by the monks, in contrast to the frenetic routine he experienced in other workplaces. He wryly notes that the monks have 'a more eternal concept of time.' During Lent, when many of us may be trying to slow down and be more contemplative, several podcast guests have made similar observations. But Peter also makes a link to the opportunities for 'soft evangelisation' offered by brewing and selling beer in a manner faithful to the rhythm and tenets of monastic life, or 'imbued with the essence of this place' as he puts it.
The next pod episode will also be a special one. Gathering from across the breadth of the Church, previous guests and listeners are stepping outside the digital world to meet in real life, on Saturday 21st March in Leicester. During the event, podcast host Theresa Alessandro will be making a live episode of the podcast in conversation with Helena Judd of Radio Maria England. For those who can't be there, the edited episode will be released as usual next Wednesday.

The All Kinds of Catholic podcast is created and hosted by Theresa Alessandro. In each episode, Theresa is in conversation with a different Catholic guest exploring how they live their faith in the world today. Guests will often be people who are not in the public eye. Taken together, their stories illustrate the image Pope Francis uses in Evangelii Gaudium, of a 'chaotic…genuine experience of fraternity, a caravan of solidarity, a sacred pilgrimage' experienced by Catholic people 'stepping into this floodtide' of life.
