Newcastle: Pupils go the extra mile to achieve CAFOD 'Live Simply' Award

Pupils and staff, led by Mrs Anna Haighton, at St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School, in Kenton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, are celebrating after achieving the CAFOD LiveSimply Award, recognising their commitment to living simply, caring for the environment and supporting communities locally and globally.

The award reflects a year of activities where the whole school worked together to put their faith into action through fundraising, community support and environmental initiatives.

Throughout the year, pupils took part in a range of activities that helped them understand how small actions can make a big difference.

Children explored global fairness through learning about Fairtrade and marked Refugee Week with prayer and assemblies, reflecting on the importance of welcoming others and standing together in solidarity, as well as taking part in the Big Lent Walk to raise money for CAFOD.

Closer to home, pupils built friendships with residents at a local care home, organised donations for a local foodbank and took part in litter picks to help care for their local area.

This award is a special moment for the St Cuthbert's community, and the children are excited to keep building on what they've started - continuing to look after the world around them and live in solidarity with others.

A St Cuthbert's pupili said: "This award really made us think about our planet and how Laudato Si has impacted our lives."

A teacher at St Cuthbert's said: "We are incredibly proud of our pupils. They have shown such enthusiasm and compassion, and this award reflects how our whole school community has worked together to live out the Gospel values and share our school ethos."
