Mayor of London welcomes 15th anniversary of Passion of Christ in Trafalgar Square

In a landmark moment for one of the capital's most powerful annual events, Wintershall Theatre returns to Trafalgar Square on Good Friday, 3 April 2026, to stage two free open-air performances of The Passion of Jesus, marking 15 years of bringing this extraordinary production to the heart of London.
First performed in Trafalgar Square in 2010, the production has grown into a cherished Easter tradition and a defining moment in London's cultural and spiritual calendar. Over the past fifteen years, hundreds of thousands of people have gathered to witness this dramatic and deeply moving retelling of the final hours of Jesus' life.
To celebrate this significant anniversary, Wintershall will once again transform Trafalgar Square into a vast open-air theatre, presenting the story of Christ's arrest, trial, crucifixion and resurrection against one of the world's most recognisable backdrops.
Featuring a large cast, live animals, striking period costumes and an original musical score, the production is both epic in scale and intimate in impact.
Free and open to all, it continues to welcome people of every background, belief and none, a unique moment where thousands stand side by side in the public square to experience a story that has shaped history.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: "It's fantastic to welcome Wintershall back to Trafalgar Square as they once again transform the heart of our capital into an open-air stage. Now a cherished Easter tradition, The Passion of Jesus brings together Londoners and visitors alike to experience this moving performance and reflect on its enduring messages of compassion, love and hope - values that remain as relevant as ever as we continue working to build a better London for everyone."
Wintershall Producer Charlotte de Klee said: "In this time of deep unrest across the world we need this story of Jesus more than ever to bring us all true hope and a future. This story speaks to everyone including those of other faiths or those with none. We welcome you all to this iconic square where we have been performing for 15 years. Thank you London for welcoming us as we welcome you."
As this is an open-air event; audiences are advised to dress appropriately for the weather. The play contains a realistic portrayal of the crucifixion; parental guidance is advised.
Performances on Good Friday 3 April are at 12 noon and 3.15pm .
Both will be livestreamed on Facebook: www.facebook.com/Wintershallplay
