Write to the Foreign Secretary: Oppose Israel's ban on aid organisations

This week, Israel announced that it will prevent 37 international aid organisations from operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Caritas Internationalis, Caritas Jerusalem, Medical Aid for Palestinians and Médecins Sans Frontières.

Right now, Palestinians in Gaza are facing cold weather and heavy rainfall, which is flooding the tents that more than one million displaced Palestinians live in, while Israel continues to block the entry of aid, including blankets, winter clothes and medicines. This latest ban on humanitarian organisations risks entirely collapsing aid delivery in Gaza, further exacerbating the level of suffering. Many more vulnerable people will die if aid doesn't reach them very soon.

Not only will this latest ban on 37 aid organisations prevent Palestinians from accessing desperately needed assistance, it also further isolates them from international support by banning independent organisations advocating for their rights from operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Please write to the Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, to demand the British government provides financial and political support for Palestinian and international organisations and implements immediate sanctions on Israel, including a full two-way arms embargo.

In line with its obligations under international law, the British government must impose a full two-way arms embargo on Israel; introduce wide-ranging sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans against Israeli governments ministers; and provide political and financial support to Palestinian and international organisations providing humanitarian assistance and defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
