On Saturday, 70,000 people - including Jesuit representatives and others from the global Catholic Church - marched through Belem in Brazil demanding effective action on climate change. Government talks continued inside the 'Blue Zone'.
At the end of the day, the COP30 Presidency reported that texts had been agreed on 15 substantive issues including adaptation finance, Just Transition and how to make decisions on finance, and these texts would be put to Ministers gathering for the second week of talks for a decision by the end of the week.
Helpful discussions had been held on the 'Baku to Belem Roadmap to $1.3 trillion' for climate finance and on the proposed roadmap for transition away from fossil fuels.
The next day, the Presidency would publish a note on consultations on four controversial issues and possible ways forward. These are climate finance, unilateral trade measures, how to cut greenhouse emissions further and reporting on countries' achievements.
Climate activists were less diplomatic about what had been achieved, pointing to continuing refusal by Developed Countries to provide necessary finance and by Saudi Arabia and others to restrict fossil fuel production.
UN climate chief Simon Stiell urged countries "to give a little so that you may get a lot".
