Ireland: Stamp unveiled honouring heroic priest

Mgr Hugh O'Flaherty - an Irish priest who saved the lives of thousands of Jewish people in Italy during World War Two, was honoured with a special Commemorative Stamp this week - to mark the centenary of his ordination.
The stamp was unveiled in a ceremony in Dublin's General Post Office, attended by Minister Patrick O'Donovan, Mgr Hugh's niece Pearl Dineen, and the extended O'Flaherty family, Grandnephews, Grandnieces and their families.
Also in attendance were Minister of State Michael Moynihan, An Post Chairperson Kieran Mulvey and Brian Fleming, author of the 2008 book, 'The Vatican Pimpernel'. It was Brian's book that reignited interest in the Monsignor's story and led to the creation of the Hugh O'Flaherty Memorial Society.
The design is based on a portrait sketch of Mgr Huge - believed to be done in Rome sometime in the 1920s and 1930s.
