Merseyside school demonstrate faith in action at harvest assembly

Generous St Alban's pupils delivering their donations to the Wirral Foodbank
To celebrate the end of the harvest season, St Alban's Catholic Primary School, Wallasey, has donated hundreds of food and toiletry items to the Wirral Foodbank to support members of its local community who are experiencing food poverty.
The school asked pupils to bring in products that are urgently needed by the foodbank and staff were blown away by the generosity of families who donated in their droves.
From tinned and packet foods to toothpaste and shower gel, the pupils of St Alban's brought in more than 250 items for a special harvest assembly.
During the assembly the whole St Alban's school community came together to give thanks to God for the abundance of food that has been grown and gathered, whilst also reflecting on the importance of helping those in need.
Following the assembly, members of the school's 'Mini Vinnies' club that support school-based initiatives, fundraising and assist in the local community, delivered the donations to Wirral Foodbank's warehouse on Dock Road.
Hattie, a member of the Mini Vinnies, said: "It's good we can be part of something like the Mini Vinnies because it's fun and we help people in need."
Another pupil, Flynn, added: "It always feels good to help people."
Headteacher of St Alban's Catholic Primary School, Mr John McDonald, said: "Helping those in need is a central principle of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and it was fantastic to see our pupils putting their faith into action during our harvest celebrations. I speak on behalf of all staff here at St Alban's when I say we were deeply moved by the kindness of our families last week following their generous donations to support the Wirral Foodbank. Thank you to everyone who supported us."
St Alban's Catholic Primary School is part of the Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust (HFCMAT) which comprises nine schools, including two secondary and seven primary, across Wirral and Cheshire.
CEO of HFCMAT, Andy Moor, said: "It is inspiring to see the generosity shown by the pupils and families of St Alban's Catholic Primary School. Acts like this reflect Holy Family Catholic Multi Academy Trust's mission of building strong communities with Gospel Values at the heart.
"I am extremely proud of the entire school community for coming together to make a real difference in the lives of others."
Next month, St Alban's is hosting an open day for all parents and carers whose children will be starting school in September 2026.
