Father Arturo Sosa SJ, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus, spent a few days in the British Province of Jesuits recently, visiting spiritual works and parishes and meeting with fellow Jesuits, lay staff, parishioners, and friends of the Society.

In Liverpool, he celebrated Mass at Saint Francis Xavier parish and unveiled a plaque marking the 175th anniversary of the opening of the church and the departure of the Society from the parish after many decades of dedicated service.

He then journeyed to St Beuno's Jesuit Spirituality Centre in Wales, giving Mass to a packed chapel of parishioners and supporters, and met with staff who work at the centre.

In Birmingham, he visited Manresa House (the Jesuit Noviciate for North West Europe) and met with men who are training for and reflecting on religious life before taking their First Vows.

In Oxford, he visited Campion Hall, the Jesuit home at the University of Oxford, and met with staff at the Laudato Si' Research Institute which was set up by the Jesuits in Britain to explore a trans-disciplinary approach to socio-ecological issues.

In London, he celebrated Mass at the Jesuits' famous Farm Street Church, was given a tour of the British Jesuit Archives, and spent time at the London Jesuit Centre with fellow Jesuits, staff and friends.

Note: Last night we learnt that Fr Peter Gallagher SJ has been appointed as the new Jesuit Provincial in Britain. We are waiting for the official announcement.
