Webinar: Catholic Education in 21st Century Britain

Catholic Education in 21st Century Britain: Opportunities and Challenges for Catholic Schools Today
The Catholic Union is hosting a webinar on Catholic education in 21st Century Britain on 15 May. The expert panel of speakers will consider some of the opportunities and challenges for Catholic schools in this country.
Speakers will be:
Dr Maureen Glackin, General Secretary of the Catholic Independent Schools' Conference
Craig Ross, Head of Philosophy, Theology and Critical Thinking at the Tiffin School
Sr Judith Russi, Director of EdcareM, an organisation that supports Catholic education and leadership in schools
Julie-Anne Tallon, Director of the Catholic Primary Partnership.
James Somerville-Meikle, Deputy Director of the Catholic Union said: "Our Catholic schools are vital for passing on the faith. They also give young people, whether they are Catholic or not, a unique way of looking at the world; one in which discipleship and servant leadership are at the heart. Catholic schools are a great gift to the communities they serve. In many ways their work is needed more than ever, although the difficulties they face are also unparalleled in many respects. This webinar will give us the chance to explore some of the challenges and opportunities facing Catholic schools, and what we can all do to support them."
Some potential areas of discussion include: Catholic teaching and leadership in schools; National curriculum in England, Wales and Scotland; Regulation and inspection of Catholic schools; Government policy towards faith schools and Family life and discipleship.
The Catholic Union is often contacted about the challenges facing Catholic schools in this country, and yet there are so many fantastic examples of schools doing a really good job, as well as opportunities for our Catholic education looking ahead.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone, but anyone wishing to attend Catholic Education in 21st Century Britain: Opportunities for Catholic Schools Today must register on Eventbrite in order to receive the link to join the meeting. We hope that a webinar, to be held under 'Chatham House Rules' will be a good way to have a helpful and respectful discussion giving people the chance to speak freely. We managed this earlier in the year when we hosted a webinar on the Synod.
