Christian Eco-Friends

  • Liz Baldwin

Research by Christian Eco-Friends with Christian Singles in Bristol and surrounding areas has shown current dating trends are changing fast, with Christian Singles turning from internet and speed-dating and pubs, to the Great Outdoors with like-minded people through fun events which focus on healing and helping Nature and saving our Planet - Our Common Home.

"After a year of research we're seeing the unpopularity of internet dating or a night out to get a 'quick life download' on a prospective partner; instead Single Christians are meeting others in a way that has an ethical ethos and is face to face, especially after the Pandemic" says Christian Eco-Friends Founder and Director, Liz Baldwin.

Christian Eco-Friends research with Christian Singles has found:

- 75% of respondents 'very unlikely' to meet a suitable partner in a bar or a club as it is 'highly unlikely' they will share interests and passions.

- No men questioned had successful relationships in bars/clubs as these were viewed as cheap liaisons and not something that they would base a relationship on.

- Internet dating seen as 'fun' but ultimately unsubstantial as it's impossible to get a real picture of a person.

- Christian Singles meet people through Facebook and social network groups and look for an element of referral and 'vouching for' when they met the opposite sex.

- Singles are most happy networking through friends - but don't like to be seen amongst their peers as 'the one' who needs to be set up.

In response, Christian Eco-Friends is creating a community which brings together social networks of Christian Singles through unique Climate Change events fostering companionship and friendship. This is based on the encyclical Laudato Si' by Pope Francis, a 'letter to the world' on the Climate Crisis and how we are treating Our Common Home, and each other. Pope Francis outlines the spiritual deficit that comes from meeting online rather than face to face:

"Real relationships with others, with all the challenges they entail, now tend to be replaced by a type of internet communication which enables us to choose or eliminate relationships at whim, thus giving rise to a new type of contrived emotion which has more to do with devices and displays than with other people and with nature."

"A night out heading to a nightclub might be seen as fun, but the reality is that Christian Singles are reaching out for a new experience that aims to eliminate dating dilemmas and enables them to not only meet, but through a way that has a higher meaning. The ethos of Christian Eco-Friends is captured in the quote by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction" outlines Liz.

Christian Eco-Friends events are held in Bristol and the surrounding areas, including activities such as tree planting, eco-matting, re-greening parks, and greening woodland.

"Our research shows people prefer to spend and commit more time to a fun group environment that fosters stability, reliability and developing friendships as they help and heal nature; Christian Eco-Friends meets this need" Liz adds.

Christian Eco-Friends events are on the first Saturday of each month from January to June this year, with further and more regular events being planned.
