Catholic social teaching and synodality key themes at forthcoming conference of women
Ushaw Historic House, near Durham, will be the venue for a conference this weekend organised by the National Board of Catholic Women (NBCW).
Uniting under the theme of 'Women at the Periphery taking Centre Stage,' speakers include Sr Marie Kolbe Zamora, of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops, Dr Pat Jones - of the Centre for Catholic Studies at Durham University, Professor Anna Rowlands - St Hilda Associate Professor of Catholic social thought and practice, Elizabeth Palmer - CEO of the St Vincent de Paul Society, Christine Allen - CEO of CAFOD and Professor Karen Kilby - Bede Chair of Theology at Durham University.
Coinciding with the start of the UN sponsored 16 days of activism for the elimination of violence against women and girls, the presentations will touch on a broad range of Catholic social teaching in action.
The organisers say the aim of the gathering is a weekend of women walking together on the synodal path and describe it as "an invitation to Catholic women to connect, support and share knowledge with one another."
There will be a diverse range of attendees from across England & Wales and the organisers are delighted to be also welcoming local students.
The conference will be held from Friday 25 November to Sunday November 27 and it's still possible to register to attend some or all of the talks. Please email Barbara Cookson: nbcwtreasurer@gmail.com.
All are welcome to join the celebration of Mass at 1630 on Saturday.
