St Alban's Pilgrimage

A magnificent ecumenical procession, organised by St Albans Cathedral, to celebrate St Alban, Britain's first saint will take place this Saturday, 25 June, in St Alban's.

Each year, 12ft tall carnival puppets, representing figures from the story of St Alban, take to the streets to reenact the historic events which lead to St Alban's execution at the hands of the Romans. The puppets are accompanied by people of all ages dressed as lions, Roman soldiers, angels, chariots and more, resulting in a stunning spectacle of colour and celebration.

Continue the Pilgrimage Day celebrations with an afternoon of Tudor-themed fun on the Abbey Orchard. Meet King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and try your hand at playing Tudor games with re-enactment group Tudor Legacies. Join our Summer Artist in Residence to make your own secret coded messages on scrolls, as well as other activities fit for the whole family.
