Pact (Prison Advice and Care Trust) staff were delighted to spend time with Bishop Richard Moth, Lead Bishop for Prisons, at our Peckham office this week. Members of the newly formed Faith in Action team discussed with Bishop Moth our ambitious plans for the year ahead.
Pact works to support prisoners and their families. We know that nurturing the 'golden thread' of family relationships makes a huge difference, giving hope to prisoners while they are inside and making it more likely they and their families will have a better future together when they are released. There are many ways in which Catholic people can and do support our work and the Faith in Action team is here to help.
Pact's Operation Elf campaign launches this week and the Faith in Action team invite parishes, groups and individuals to help mums and dads in prison give a Christmas gift to their child. Bishop Moth said 'This simple act can nurture the hope that redemption and a fresh start is possible'.
If you'd like to keep your parish connected with Pact's work, contact the Faith in Action team about easy ways you can do that. Perhaps you are wondering if you are called to give some time volunteering to support prisoners and their families, walking more closely in solidarity with them? Pact offers training and support to help you. We are working in partnership with Together for the Common Good to offer JustPeople workshops looking more deeply at Catholic Social Teaching in relation to Pact's work. Some of these workshops are online and one is at Sutton Life Centre on 27th November.
